Hanson to market 'Mmmhop' beer

Hanson

The Hanson brothers weren't legal drinking age when they scored a massive hit with "MMMbop" in 1997. Now that they -- and their fans -- are older, the Oklahoma pop-rock trio are getting into the booze business by launching a beer called MMMhop.

According to "NME," the drink is an Indian pale ale that will be available early next year. Drummer Zac Hanson spilled details of the beverage during a talk at Oxford University's Oxford Union. "It's vital our fans trust in everything Hanson do," he told the crowd. "We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I'm not joking –- MMMhop IPA anyone?"

Elvis Costello to fans: 'Don't buy my new box set'

Elvis costello

Elvis Costello is urging his fans not to buy his new box set, "The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook," on account of its steep price tag.

The limited edition set, which includes a CD, DVD, a 10-inch vinyl EP and a book, retails at $202.63 and comes out next week. However, the "Alison" singer feels your money would be better spent on other things, according to an update on his website that derides the price as an "elaborate hoax."

"We at www.elviscostello.com find ourselves unable to recommend 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook' as the price appears to be either a misprint or a satire," reads the post. "All our attempts to have this number revised have been fruitless so we are taking the following unusual step."

So what should fans buy instead? "If you want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving, we suggest, 'Ambassador Of Jazz' -- a cute little imitation suitcase containing ten re-mastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived – Louis Armstrong," the statement continues. "Frankly the music is vastly superior."

All the components in the box set will be available in the New Year. "If you should still want the component items in the above mentioned elaborate hoax, they will be available separately at a more affordable price in the New Year," the post sums up, "unless you are one of those pirates who imagines they are evangelists or that other people’s rights absolve their own thievery, in which case this is between you and your dim conscience."

Adele using voice-generating smartphone app to talk

01183331

Pop star Adele is apparently using a smartphone app to communicate following vocal cord surgery. British newspaper "The Sun" reported Wednesday that the 23-year-old has downloaded a voice-generating app that reads out messages she types into it, Stephen Hawking-style.

"She's been using the speaking app to buy coffee at Starbucks and to order cabs," a source told the paper. "It is far easier to communicate using it rather than writing everything down on paper and showing people."

In October, the singer canceled a series of concerts to undergo a vocal cord operation and is now resting her voice under doctor's orders. "I’m doing really well, on the mend, super happy, relaxed and very positive with it all," she said in a blog post earlier this month. "The operation was a success and I’m just chilling out now until I get the all clear from my doctors."

Black star cover

Hip-hop duo Black Star are set to release a mixtape tribute to soul icon Aretha Franklin. Due some time next year, "Black Star Aretha" will be the first new album from Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) since 1998 when the duo released "Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star."

Last week, Black Star set up their new website BlackStarHub and released "Fix Up," a track produced by Madlib, and "You Already Knew" produced by Oh No, both taken from "Aretha." Although an unfinished version of "Fix Up" has been circulating online for a year, the duo didn't officially premiere the song until October when they performed it on "The Colbert Report."

"We’re really into a Madlib/Dilla thing right now. Anything you hear from us is probably going to be that type of sound," Kweli told MTV Hive earlier this month. "And it’s about independence, so we are trying to find out the right mediums to get the songs out."

Rumours that M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj will guest on Madonna's next single "Give Me All Your Love" appear to be coming true. On Saturday, the "Paper Planes" performer tweeted, "Summond to NYC by bitchesses > MADONNA and @NICKIMINAJ > cofffffiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee it iz a good day to get me tho trustttt bitches."

Lady Gaga posed naked for Tony Bennett

Lady gaga

Lady Gaga revealed during her Thanksgiving TV special on Thursday night that she recently posed naked for Tony Bennett so he could sketch pictures of her for an upcoming issue of "Vanity Fair."

During the 90-minute ABC special, which opened with the pop star and the veteran crooner performing their version of "Lady and the Tramp," she said the idea was thought up by photographer Annie Leibovitz.

"I walked in and said, 'Well Tony, here we are' and I dropped my robe and I got into position," she explained. "I felt shy and thought, 'It's Tony Bennett, why am I naked?'"

"He's so handsome," she added. "I feel terrible whenever his wife is around because he's so charming and such a gentleman."

The sketches will be published in "Vanity Fair" sometime next year.
