Adele to make live return at Grammy Awards

Adele

After taking a breaking from performing to recover from vocal chord surgery, British soul singer Adele will make her return to the stage at the Grammy Awards on February 12.

The star made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday, writing "Ima be, Ima be singing at the Grammys. It's been so long I started to forget I was a singer! I can't wait, speak soon xx."

The two-time Grammy winner previously performed during the show in 2010, the same year she picked up statuettes for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her single "Chasing Pavements."

This year she is up for six awards, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year for her sophomore effort "21," which was last year's top-selling album and spawned three number one hits in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," she said in a statement to the British media. "It's an absolute honour to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all."

Adele will follow-up the performance with a second live appearance at the Brit Awards on February 21.

Elton John tells Madonna to lip-synch Super Bowl show

Elton john

After dissing Madonna on the Golden Globes red carpet, pop legend Elton John made another jab at the Material Girl during a recent interview with ABC News.

When asked what advice he would give the pop singer in advance of her Super Bowl halftime show in Indianapolis on February 5, he said: "Make sure you lip synch good."

"I've never seen a decent one. Never ever," he added of the halftime show. "Never ever... You have to play live, but I don't think you can. In all fairness to everyone who's done one before, you may be able to sing live, but it's really hard to play live."

John will also appear during the Super Bowl broadcast -- but during a commercial break. The "Rocket Man" singer will star in a Pepsi commercial alongside "X Factor" winner Melanie Amaro.

The 64-year-old and his husband David Furnish have traded barbs with Madonna in the media during and after the Golden Globe Awards ceremony. After she won the Best Original Song award for "Masterpiece" from the movie "W.E.," Furnish took to Facebook and wrote, "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!! Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism."

When the comments went viral, he followed up with another post to say the remarks had "been blown way out of proportion."

In other Madonna Super Bowl news, M.I.A. confirmed in an interview with BBC Radio host Zane Lowe that she'll appear during the set to perform Madge's new single "Give Me All Your Luvin'," which she co-wrote and guests on.

The Spice Girls to reunite for Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Spice girls

Rumours have been circulating for a while that a Spice Girls reunion is imminent and now member Melanie Brown (a.k.a. Scary Spice) has confirmed the news in an interview for Australian television.

However, rather than taking the stage for the London 2012 Olympics, Brown revealed the group will get back together for a special Buckingham Palace gig to mark Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee on June 4. The event will celebrate the British monarch's 60-year reign.

"I think the Queen's Jubilee concert is the event I'd be looking at more closely for that to happen," she said, before quickly changing the subject. Sources on the crew later told "The Sun" newspaper that the pop singer was apparenty fretting about spilling the news. "I am going to be in such strife for saying that," she reportedly said after the show. "It's all so totally bloody top-secret still."

The concert has yet to be officially announced but it will likely be recorded for a TV broadcast.

D'Angelo performs new material in Stockholm

Dangelo stockholm

In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Roots ringleader ?uestlovesaid that "James River," the long-awaited follow-up to D'Angelo's seminal R&B album "Voodoo" is nearly done and offered a few details on "The Charade."

"One song we worked on called 'Charade' has this trombone patch that he re-EQ'd and then put through an envelope filter and then added a vibraphone noise on top and made a whole new patch out of it," he said. "He's the only person I know that takes a Herbie Hancock approach, or Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff—the two musician/engineers who programmed all of Stevie Wonder's genius-period stuff—approach. That's the last time I ever heard of somebody building patches. We'll see if history is kind to it."

Check out footage of D'Angelo performing his new songs via the "Village Voice."
