Courtney Love loses rights to Kurt Cobain's image
Courtney Love has lost the publicity rights for her late husband Kurt Cobain's name, image and likeness, according to sealed court documents obtained by The Fix.
Those rights now belong to the Hole rocker's estranged daughter, 19-year-old Frances Bean Cobain, whom she lost custody of in 2009.
The documents show that Love stepped down as acting manager of the business entity, End of Music LLC, that generates revenue from the Nirvana frontman's publicity rights after she received a US$2.75 million loan from Frances' trust fund in 2010. Until Love pays the money back, she won't receive any funds from the deals that Frances and her advisors approve for the usage of Cobain's likeness.
The Fix also reports that Frances has final say in business agreements in the deals negotiated by End of Music's new acting manager, David Byrnes, of the Los Angeles-based firm Ziffren Brittenham. Love does remain as a company member but has no decision making powers.
Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994.
