Dolphins overdose after rave at Swiss zoo
Two dolphins have died after overdosing on a heroin substitute during a techno rave at a Swiss zoo. NME reports that the animals, named Shadow and Chelmers, likely died after inadvertantly ingesting Buprenorphine at the event held last November at Connyland Zoo in Lipperswil, Switzerland.
It is thought that the drug was fed to them by party goers. Initially authorities believed that pulsing music or antibiotics given to the dolphins by zookeepers played a part in their deaths but a toxicology report leaked to the Swiss media this week has shown otherwise.
The dolphins died five days apart. Shadow was found dead after the rave and Chelmers died later "shaking and foaming at the mouth." Zookeeper Nadja Gasser characterized the animals' final moments as "drawn out and painful."
"It was horrendous," she said. "I have not been able to sleep since."

Dolphins should be respected. Never should irresponsible people be unattended with our precious animals. There are other ways to raise funds then allowing animals in captivity to be subjected to this kind of treatment and horrendous death. Those who inflicted this treatment should also suffer a long and painful death. I am thankful that God will take care of their punishment. Amen.

Ummm.... Maybe this is just me but doesnt it seems like a dumb idea to hold a rave at a zoo? On top of that I dont know who the waterhead was that thought it would be a good idea to put it beside an open body of water. Not only is that a danger to the moron too high to know what is going on... But I have personal experiance to the fact that these types of morons will throw just about anything into the water just because it makes a noise or a sight that is visually appealing to them at the time. Now the moron who probably thought "lets get the dolphins high" should be thrown in the shark tank. REALLY ?!?!? Lets get the dolphins high??? Somehow in this case I think the people at the zoo have some explaining to do... Poor dolphins.

Dolphins should not be kept in a zoo period. Regardless those drugged out idiots should be shot for what they have done. Also, the zoo owners should of never allowed for this to happen. Ohh the swiss, holes in their cheese, holes in their brains......

Who is the intelligent "human" who said it was ok for a rave at the zoo in the first place????? Did they really think that the morons who attend these things are "good kids" who don't smoke, do drugs, drink??? Didn't they stop for a second to think that of course these idiots would do something cruel to animals of any and all kinds? And they cage animals. I rest my case. Put these ravers in cages, the zoo officials in cages, all where they belong. And as for the zookeeper who can't sleep...she only has herself to blame.

Why are dolphins in a zoo ?
Why are any living creatures kept in captivity,
a bird, a fish, a whale , a spider , a moose , a bear and on and on and on.......,
what is wrong with a human society that enjoys seeing animals out of their natural habitat and locked up.

What kind of zoo holds a rave where the animals all would become stressed from the lights and loud music, and everyone knows ppl who attend raves usually do some kind of drugs, are they so stupid they couldn't foresee that someone might be cruel enough to feed an animal these drugs? Or even accidentally drop some into an enclosure where an animal may inadvertently eat it?Not only the person who did this should be charged but the idiots at the zoo as well. The animals paid an ultimate price for their "party" I'm sick to the stomach about this. These ppl obviously truly know nothing about animals or how to properly care for them. Someone should OD the idiot who agreed to have the rave there. Useless ppl. The dolphins were worth more then the jerks who run the zoo.

I won't mind the zoo for locking up animals as long as they're treating them with RESPECT, but they DON'T!!! How do I know that for a fact?! WELL, the VERY LAST time I went to the "African Lion Safari" MANY YEARS ago and I was with my family & relatives when I was a youth, I saw a deer that was always knocking on every car's glass door, each time the people drove by, and, by the time me & my family got to it, I saw with my OWN eyes, that it was SHEDDING A TEAR from it's left eye!!! It was TOTALLY INFINITY% HORRIBLE that not only do I remember this 100% CLEARLY, but, as well as I STOPPED going to the "African Lion Safari" OF COURSE and ALSO the other zoos too!!! >='( I feel SOOO SORRY for those 100% POOR ANIMALS there!!! ='( EVERY SINGLE time this COMPLETELY INFINITY% HORRIBLE experience just pops into my head, it just MAKES me SOOO ANGRY that I just want to go to ALL of the zoos, UNLOCK ALL of those cages & gates, so that ALL of those POOR ANIMALS can RUN FREE into the wild!!! >='( GRRR!!! >='( HOW DARE THE ZOOS ARE BEING 100% INSENSITIVE TO ALL OF THESE POOR ANIMALS?! Erm, have you ever considered that the deer may have had some dust in its eyes? Modern zoos, like African Lion Safari, do marvellous work in conservation. Many of the native species such as Vancouver Island Marmots would be extinct if it wasn't for zoos such as Toronto, stepping in.
