Jimi Hendrix estate opposes biopic
The estate of Jimi Hendrix has spoken out against a biopic about the late guitarist's life starring OutKast rapper Andre 3000, according to Rolling Stone.
After several failed attempts to make a film about Hendrix's life, a report surfaced this week that a film tentatively entitled All Is By My Side has gone into pre-production in Ireland. Shooting is scheduled to begin in a few weeks time and John Ridley, a screenwriter whose credits include Three Kings and U-Turn, is slated to direct.
However, the estate has not given the filmmakers permission to use Hendrix's music. It issued the following statement on Thursday:
"Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog, has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation."
While Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix (Jimi's sister) has not ruled out licensing music for a biopic, she has said in the past that the estate must be involved from the get-go.

I would urge Jimi's family to just get on with it and get involved then.
Hello?
You always oppose everything to do with Jimi!!!
I get you wanna keep his legacy alive and intact, and that's GOOD, but as time goes by and new people come into this world who have never heard of Jimi, it's only a matter of time before interest wanes to the point where less and less will even care. Get involved now and push his legacy forward with the new world we live in.
OR don't and get left behind... it IS possible to make this film without using any music at all. It wouldn't be as good, but definitely NOT impossible to do.
