Azealia Banks deletes Twitter, renounces "rap game"
Azealia Banks wants out of the rap game. In a post on her Tumblr page, the rising star wrote that she no longer wishes to be called a "rapper," but rather a "vocalist," and has deleted her Twitter account because "it makes me entirely too accessible."
"I never was," she wrote in a post entitled, "No longer wishing to be a rapper." "And as soon as i started paying attention to bulls*** urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the' rap game'… or whatever the f*** that means."
"No more twitter for me," she continued. "It makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting."
Banks became one of the year's biggest buzz acts after releasing the gleefully foul-mouthed club jam "212" last fall. She's since signed a deal with Interscope Records, relesed the EP 1991 and is in the midst of recording her debut album Broke with Expensive Taste, which is due for release in the fall.
After news outlets picked up the story that she's renounced rap, she later clarified: "I'm still going to rap... i just don’t want the label and all the other crap that comes with the "rap game"… it’s boring. rather be a dance artist.. lol."
