Spice Girls unveil musical based on their songs
All five members of British girl group the Spice Girls were on hand in London Tuesday (June 26) to launch Viva Forever!, a musical production based on their hit songs.
The BBC reports that Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell joined the show's creator Judy Craymer, producer of Abba musical Mamma Mia!, at a London hotel to unveil the details of the show.
Craymer collaborated with writer Jennifer Saunders, the British comedian behind the TV series Absolutely Fabulous, and the show will be directed by Paul Garrington, who has previously worked on productions of Mamma Mia! and Dirty Dancing.
"She understands the anxieties in women, the fear of judgment and trepidation that one day they get to a certain age and become invisible," Craymer said of working with Saunders.
Viva Forever! will tell the story of a beautiful girl and her best friends who become obsessed with today's TV celebrity culture. The musical will chart "her journey into the world of overnight fame and its impact on her relationships with her mother and the friends she thought she'd have forever," according to producers.
Previews are set to begin on November 27 and the show will open on December 11 at London's Picadilly Theatre.
