Mariah Carey 'in serious talks' to judge "Idol"

Following the news that Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and pop star Jennifer Lopez will not return as judges on the 12th season of American Idol, reports are circulating that pop diva Mariah Carey is "in serious talks" to take a seat at the Fox singing competition's judging table.

"She's in play," an insider told People. "They are in serious talks."

The "Shake It Off" singer's name was previously mentioned when Simon Cowell's The X Factor was looking to fill its juding chairs earlier this year. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato ultimately wound up landing the gigs.

There have also been reports that former Idol contestant Adam Lambert is in negotiations to become a judge on the series. "If Idol wants to talk to me about judging, I'd be more than flattered to have that conversation," he said in a statement to Billboard.
