Gotye creates "Somebody That I Used To Know" mash-up

Belgian-born Australian musician Gotye has created a mash-up video of covers of his hit single "Somebody That I Used To Know."

Entitled "Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra,"the clip stitches together footage of other musicians covering the song as well as parodies of the song's MTV Video Music Awards-nominated video to create a mostly instrumental reworking of the song.

"Reluctant as I am to add to the mountain of interpretations of 'Somebody That I Used To Know' seemingly taking over their own area of the internet, I couldn't resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered," he wrote on his YouTube page.

"No extra sounds were added to the mix, but I used some EQ, filtering, pitch-shifting and time-stretching to make the music," he added. "I avoided using any existing remixes of the song, or any covers from tv talent shows."
