Mariah Carey debuted her first single in two years on Thursday (August 2). The mid-tempo R&B jam "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" features guest verses from rappers Rick Ross and Meek Mill and will be released officially on August 7.

During a conference call with journalists to promote the song, the pop diva discussed plans for her forthcoming untitled album.

"I'm collaborating with a lot of my favorite people but the main thing is [that] I'm not trying to follow any particular trend," she said, according to Billboard. "I want it to be well received. I want to stay true to myself and the music that I love and make the fans happy."

The future American Idol judge also touched on the state of R&B and the expectations that R&B songs must now have pop appeal in order to succeed on the charts. "It would be incredible if we can bring back the days where R&B songs didn't have to cross over," she said. "It makes me sad that there are so many talented R&B artists that don't get the chance that they should.
