Michael Jackson's father drops suit against Conrad Murray
Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, has dropped a wrongful death lawsuit against Conrad Murray, the doctor convicted of causing the pop star's death, The Guardian reports.
Court records show a request for dismissal was granted on Monday (August 13). A reason for the case being dropped was not given.
Jackson filed the suit in June 2010 but a federal judge declined the hear the case so it was re-filed in a state court in Los Angeles. In the suit, the late star's father claimed that Murray lied to doctors about giving his son the anesthetic propofol, which caused his death, and was seeking damages.
"We are relieved that the civil suit has been dismissed voluntarily," Murray’s lawyer said in a statement. "It has been a miserable three years for Dr. Murray and he continues to pray for the peace and well being of the entire Jackson family."
Murray remains jailed and is appealing his involuntary manslaughter conviction.
