Bon Iver's Vernon crowdsources tattoo design

Bon Iver 2

Bon Iver main man Justin Vernon wants to get a tattoo inspired by the television show Northern Exposure and he's asking fans to help him design it.

The Grammy-winning indie rocker wants the tattoo to be in the style of Czech painter Alphons Mucha and is offering a cash reward to the winning designer.

"I named my band after an episode of Northern Exposure," Vernon wrote on the website 99designs. "In the episode a women transforms a gold rush village into a cultural place with one single dance in a tavern. They name the town after her, Cicely, Alaska. The art direction in the episode is unmistakably Mucha and I want to get a very large tattoo of this on my left arm."

He added: "This is a really important thing to me. I don't know how to express that exactly... It's a TV show but it weirdly explained my life to me. Cicely is the metaphor for that."
