Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong hospitalized in Italy
Green Day was forced to cancel a show in Bologna, Italy over the weekend after singer Billie Joe Armstrong was admitted to hospital to treat an illness, Billboard repots. He has since been released.
In a video message to fans, his bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool apologized for the cancellation and insisted that the group would return to Bologna as soon as possible.
"We apologize profusely - this is really unfortunate - but Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness and the doctors don't think it's a good idea for him to play today," Dirnt said.
"We're beyond devastated, we're as sad as you guys are," added Cool. "Billie's extremely upset about it, and we'll see you very soon."
¡Uno!, the first installment in the pop-punk group's upcoming album trilogy, comes out on September 25, with ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! following in November and January. Armstrong can also be seen this fall on the singing competition series The Voice as a mentor for judge Christina Aguilera's team.
