Morrissey: 'Prince Harry is an absolute idiot'

Morrissey has fired off biting missive at the royal family via an Australian website.

In an interview with News.com.au, the ex-Smiths front man gave a lengthy answer when asked for his thoughts on the photos of Prince Harry partying naked in a Las Vegas hotel room that recently surfaced in the tabloids.

A staunch anti-Monarchist, he branded the prince an "absolute idiot" and lambasted the British press for attempting to put a postitive spin on the scandal.

"I wasn't surprised by Harry in Vegas because he's always been an absolute idiot. What becomes mesmerizing is the way the British print and television media accelerate into panic mode in order to put a positive spin on a dazzling royal behaving badly," he said. "The monarchy is foremost a business, and it's important to them that the British public continue to finance the excessive luxurious lifestyles of the now quite enormous, wasteful and useless 'royal' family. I find it very sad. William shoots deer, Kate's favourite food is the shockingly cruel fois gras, Harry shoots water buffalo, Charles had an affair with Camel whilst still married to Diana."

He added: "They are the most dysfunctional, unpleasant and arrogant people on the planet... a sour soap opera, and they should resign and retire."

In addition to his scathing assessment of the royals, Morrissey also declared that his favourite Australian animal is Eric Bana, suggested that Russell Brand play King Lear and lauded the song "Born That Way" by James Marker as "the greatest single of the last decade."
