Stevie Nicks sorry for saying she'd strangle Nicki Minaj

Fleetood Mac

A day after Stevie Nicks surprised fans by wading into the Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj feud, the Fleetwood Mac singer is wading out.

Nicks says she is "truly sorry" that she ranted against Minaj for allegedly threatening Carey on the set of American Idol last week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In an interview with The Daily on Tuesday, Nicks surprised fans by aggressively siding with Team Mariah when asked for her thoughts on the spat between the two Idol judges, which anonymous sources close to the show have claimed was fabricated by execs as a ratings ploy.

"How dare this little girl!" Nicks proclaimed. "If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there... I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it."

The "Dreams" singer was reacting to Carey's claim (via The View host Barbara Walters) that several people on the set overheard Minaj say she wanted to shoot her fellow judge over a contestant disagreement.

Nicks now says she regrets the rant in an statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj's behaviour toward Mariah Carey which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews," she said. "It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said. I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey who has gone through many difficulties in her life and I spoke without thinking. I think all artists should be respectful toward one another and that includes me. I am truly sorry."
