The Smiths are never ever getting back together: publicist

Morrissey 2

A rep for ex-Smiths front man Morrissey has sought to quash persistent rumours that the seminal '80s rock group intend to reform at some point.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer's publicist said: "The Smiths are never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever going to reunite – ever."

Asked why the band, which broke up 25 years ago, will never ever reunite, the rep replied: "You'd have to ask Morrissey that. There's got to be a story there, and maybe one day it will be told."

The latest Smiths reunion rumours started after Morrissey told an Australian news outlet that organizers of the California music festival Coachella offered to go 100% vegetarian if he and former bandmate Johnny Marr agreed to reform the group.

"Fascinatingly they made it clear that they would 'not require' the Smiths' bass player or drummer," Morrissey said. "Which I thought certainly said something."

Earlier this week, Marr's manager also denied that a reunion will happen in an interview with NME. "It isn't happening," he said. "We are fully focussed on preparing Johnny's new album for release and booking shows for 2013."
