Bon Iver's Justin Vernon still hates the Grammys
Winning the Best New Artist Grammy last year apparently did not soften Bon Iver main man Justin Vernon's stance on the annual music industry awards showcase.
After Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste took to Twitter to complain that his group failed to secure any Grammy nominations on Wednesday night (December 5) despite the critical accolades for their Shields album, Vernon replied back with a few encouraging words.
"So the Grammies are literally based off sales and nothing else?" Droste tweeted. "Super relieved Taylor Swift is up for another award. Was worried she didn't have enough."
He then tweeted at Vernon to ask for "the Grammy secret," to which Vernon replied with a mini-rant.
"This is why i hate the grammies," he wrote. "Because it allows you to question what you've done. don't question what you've done Ed... y'alls music is pure as f*** and there is nobody making music lke you and i think it's truly unique. the grammies aren't a measure of much that is calculable or quantifiable by our own contexts for music. why you create is more important. All this being said, F*** those morons for not knowing enough about GB."
Following Vernon's heartfelt pep-talk, Droste admitted that his tweets were sarcastic.
"For the record I never thought or expected to nominated," he wrote. "Nor am I surprised/majorly disappointed."
