Discovery Channel drops Ted Nugent

Ted Nugent 3

The Discovery Channel will no longer work with right-wing rocker and staunch gun advocate Ted Nugent.

Rolling Stone reports (via The Raw Story) that an unnamed spokesperson for the U.S. cable network said the star's hour-long special Ted Nugent's Gun Country fared poorly in the ratings when it aired last October and following the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday (December 14), he would definitely not be returning to the air.

Nugent and his associates at the National Rifle Association had previously claimed the special was conceived with a series in mind. In an interview for Armed America Radio in October, the Detroit-born rocker said that "there will be at least a dozen shows a year." However, the Discovery spokesperson refuted that claim.

The news comes after Discovery confirmed it has cancelled the reality series American Guns.

"American Guns concluded earlier this year," the network said in a statement. "Discovery Channel chose not to renew the series and has no plans to air repeats of the show."
