Hamster activists upset with Justin Bieber

A day after the Filipino congress threatened to blacklist Justin Bieber for dissing boxer Manny Pacquiao, a group of hamster rights activists have blasted the Canadian pop star for giving his pet hamster away to a fan.

Earlier this month, Bieber gave his pet hamster PAC to a screaming 18-year-old fan named Tori after a concert in Atlanta. In response, the California Hamster Association (CHA) has accused Bieber of "animal cruelty" in an interview with TMZ.

According to the organization, the rodents are fragile animals that "often succumb quickly to illness and death" when faced with "sudden environmental change."

"The moment that hamster was handed off to a screaming girl in a harsh, frenzied environment was likely the moment it gazed at the short path to its doom," a spokesperson said.

Instead of gifting PAC to the fan, the CHA said, Bieber should have placed him in the care of an animal shelter or rescue centre that would find a new home for the creature the proper way.
Bieber has not commented on the matter.
