Björk starts Kickstarter to redevelop 'Biophilia' app

Bjork 1

Björk is turning to the people to help raise the money needed to develop her interactive Biophilia app for Android and Windows 8 operating systems.

The app is part of the the Icelandic pop star's album, educational program and multimedia live show of the same name and is currently only available on Apple devices such as iPad. Her goal is to make it more accessible to low-income families and schools with small budgets.

"The Biophilia educational program is a new way to teach children about science and music," she wrote on the Kickstarter campaign page. "It has met with success in many cities, sparking interest from kids and educators all over the world, from South America to East Asia to Africa. The most interest has come from students from low-income households and schools with underfunded art budgets, and the only way to bring the project to those people is to have Biophilia reprogrammed for Android and Windows 8. The Biophilia educational project is strictly non-profit and volunteer-based, and that’s why we need your help."

She is aiming to raise £375,000 (CAD $592,000). Incentives for potential donors include merch, credit within the app and VIP tickets to an upcoming Biophilia concert.
