Carey, Minaj fail to boost "American Idol" ratings
Despite the media attention showered on feuding American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, last night's (January) season premiere was the long-running Fox singing series was its lowest-rated season opener yet, Reuters reports.
According to early Nielsen ratings data, the 12th season opener saw ratings in the 18-49 age group drop 19% to 17.9 million from 21.9 million in 2012. However, it was still the most-watched series on U.S. network television on Wednesday night.
The two-hour episode marked the debut of judges Carey, Minaj and country artist Keith Urban, who joined the the show after the departures of pop star Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler last year.
Much of the coverage before and after the Idol premiere has focused on an apparent feud between Carey and Minaj that began making headlines last fall after a behind-the-scenes video of the duo arguing hit the Internet.

What were you thinkiing when you put Minaj on the Judging panel. She is such a Bimbo and always tries to take over the conversation and asks all males if they have a girlfriend. Nobody ever seems to enjoy her music from the contestants. You have seen the last viewing from us, unless you get rid of her. Carey brings some good comments to the show and can see real talent along with Randy and Keith. Do your duty Ryan and Randy and get Minaj off the judging panel as she is a disaster to your viewers

This might be the first year that I don't watch Idol. Minaj and Carey dominate the conversation. Randy and Keith NEVER get to speak first. It is ALL about the judges this year, and not about the contestants, as we saw in the first episode. I think we actually only saw five contestants in an hour. Either the producers get control of the panel, or this will be the last year for fans.

I am a senior lady of 83 years and want to express my disappointment on this season's production. A huge disaster! Minaj is the claimant to that title.
I certainly support Randy, Mariah and Keith expressions re the contestants but Ms. Minaj adds no expertise of any kind. That is, she only seems to give her attention to the young males and their status as 'single'.
I can onliy support one more viewing and, if Ms. Minaj remains as a Judge, it will be my last. I began with American Idol from the first show ever and am extremely upset that I might have to take drastic action and will no longer be a fan.
Thank you for allowing me to state my positiion.
