Randy Travis to plead guilty to drunk driving
Randy Travis is expected to plead guilty to drunk driving charges this week.
Billboard reports that the 53-year-old country star, who was arrested while naked in North Texas last summer after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am, will plead guilty to a misdemeanour charge that is punishable by up to two years in prison and a US $4,000 fine.
Details of the plea will be released following his court appearance on Thursday (January 31). Travis' attorney, John Nix, believes his client will receive a sentence of probation and added that the singer is "looking forward to putting this behind him and moving on."
Travis made headlines last summer when he was arrested for drunk driving and allegedly threatening police near his home in Tioga, Texas, which is 60 miles north of Dallas. Authorities have said his car veered off the road and struck construction barriers on August 7. Police found him naked and covered in bruises on the scene. His blood alcohol level was 0.15, which is over the 0.08 legal limit.
The charge related to threatening police is no longer on file with the court, according to Billboard.
